Additions and Enhancements

Update to 1/1/2020

The APIS information appearing on this website has been updated to include legislative and regulatory changes that took effect on or before 1/1/2020. Vehicular Insurance Exclusion has been discontinued and is not included in the update.

Policy Resources

The following new or revised policy resources were added to APIS:

  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, many States adopted new policies affecting the availability of alcohol. APIS has developed two new resources: The Digest of State Alcohol-Related Laws During the COVID-19 Emergency provides capsule narratives of state-level restrictions on sales of alcoholic beverages. The Dataset of State Alcohol-Related Laws During the COVID-19 Emergency presents policy information in a spreadsheet format to facilitate quantitative analyses. The Digest and Dataset are updated bimonthly, providing continuous coverage of these policies since the onset of the pandemic. See APIS COVID-19 coverage.
  • Six new policy topics were added under Pregnancy and Drugs. The coverage begins on 1/1/1968 and currently extends to 1/1/2017. These topics parallel those in the Pregnancy and Alcohol category and include: Civil Commitment, Legal Significance for Child Abuse/Child Neglect, Limitations on Criminal Prosecution, Priority Treatment, Reporting Requirements, and Warning Signs: Drugs During Pregnancy.
  • The baseline date for the six Pregnancy and Alcohol topics now begins on 1/1/1968 and now includes up to 30 years more of policy coverage. The previous baselines were 1/1/1998 for Civil Commitment and Limitations on Criminal Prosecution, and 1/1/2003 for Legal Significance for Child Abuse/Child Neglect, Priority Treatment, Reporting Requirements, and Warning Signs: Drinking During Pregnancy.
  • The Recently Adopted Cannabis Laws page was updated to provide descriptions of recreational cannabis legalization laws adopted since 1/1/2020, in Arizona, Montana, New Jersey, South Dakota, Vermont, and Virginia.
  • Additional journal references were added to the Selected References sections of various APIS policy topics.
